Machining Case Study: S Y Adix Super-Yacht

The S Y Adix is a magnificent racing yacht that regularly takes part in events around the UK. The yacht was originally constructed in Fife, Scotland and is now thought to be worth somewhere in the region of £25m. It’s currently housed in the Pendennis yard in Cornwall, UK.

When the SY Team discovered that the shaft wasn’t turning as it should they were able to quickly diagnose the problem. They could clearly see that the solution required some precision line boring.   That’s when they got in touch with us.

With a yacht this size it was obviously going to be a major undertaking to move it to a workshop facility that could handle this type of project. It’s in situations like this that our onsite machining services are particularly useful. By sending our on-site machining engineers down to the Pendennis yard with one of our mobile line boring machines the job was completed very quickly and caused the S Y Team very little disruption.

Upon the completion of the job a spokesperson for Pendennis said,

'We expect the installation to be 100% improved with the M & A alignment and will not hesitate to use [their] services again.'

While we were there the team also asked us to help them by machining a seating to accept a new cutlass bearing they needed to fit.

We sincerely enjoyed working with the team at Pendennis and look forward to working with them again in the near future.
